Great. The most important part of Zuko’s face, the whole “Mark of the banished prince, cursed to chase the Avatar forever” thing, ruined. I know I’ve said reserve judgement, BUT COME ON! Of all the things to mess up, they ruin the scar? What’s next, Aang not having his tatoo. (Looks at picture of Noah Ringer)………
..i wonder if we guys here should give the whole thing and the people behind it the BENEFIT OF DOUBT..or a complete, synchronized, and accordial THUMBS DOWN?…im hoping it will be alright..this situation of the movie is so confusing..a part of you believes it will turn out alright..the other says its a complete failure!..sh*t..sorry for the word
whats up with the eye brows… and i agree 100% with ashley, here we have an awsome series then out comes pictures of whats going to be in the movie BOOM awsome show ruined (in a way)
Why would they waste money and energy to add a simple scar on someone’s face? CGI isn’t exactly a thing for sale at the dollar store. Besides, he already has a scar. I assume you’re all expecting a gigantic brown thing on his face. Well, certain things are portrayed differently in cartoon. Realistically, a fire burn would have healed much differently. And if you don’t want realistic, well then go to a cosplay. >_>
Actually, burn scars can range anywhere from small tinges in color, and slight deformity of skin (Like we see here) Top severe discoloration and terrible distortion (Like we see in the cartoon.) Both are realistic representations of what a burn scar could look like.
But if you remeber how the scar came to be. Zuko took a direct, high powered fire blast to the face. Realistically, an injury like that wouldn’t lead to a “slight” deformity.
Of course the scar is going to look different in real life as opposed to a cartoon!
I am really hoping this isn’t what it’ll really look like. After obsessively drawing Zuko for three years (I’m a die-hard Avatar fan), I’ve come to memorize every detail of his face, like… HIS LACK OF A LEFT EYEBROW! Please tell me Dev’s left eyebrow will magically vanish via computer editing and so forth.
It actually looks more like an old bruise/scrape rather than a burn. Oh well. That was a letdown…
dammit.
they messed him up.
i accepted dev patel. but what’s wrong is that,
- his hair should of been longer to cover his big ears because ZUKO DOESNT HAVE BIG EARS IN THE CARTOON SHOW.
- the scar doesnt look like it exists
- he looks older and scarier
-he’s wearing a fur coat or something.(they didnt have that in the show)
this movie is going to make me cry out of dissapointment. im a big fan
Yeah that would be cool if those two in the background were Katara and Gran Gran. Maybe they just thought that if they made the burn look like it did in the cartoon it would look too ugly or some other crazy thing. As for the fur coats they were actually filming were it was really cold and they probably didn’t want their actors to get sick or anything like that. Heck even when they filmed the X-MEN movie Rebecca used a coat inbetween takes.
All I have to say is…it doesn’t look too good. ^^’
Hair, eye brow, ear, eye…how is that supposed to be Zuko? Did he trip or something and bruise his face??
And Zuko was cute with hair. I don’t even know what that is
I’ve got to admit the costumes and make up are done really well. However, the scar does need to be little more noticeable however, it is one of the things that make Zuko Prince Zuko and in this picture it looks almost nonexistent. I’m not saying to make his face terribly distorted, but at least a little bit more noticeable? Also, I believe that Dev Patel does have a strong resemblance to Zuko, but only if he lost the hair. Just my opinion.
Wow, this actually really sucks. They could at least TRY to be accurate, but NO! This guy looks middle-eastern. Avatar Zuko is definitely more Japanese. Where is the scar? I had to do a double take before I noticed his ‘terrible burn’. He just tripped and fell on his face!
But, in all honestly, I shouldn’t have expected anything different. Movies always seem to *uck up the show.
Hmm, just to add to the costume, it looks good, but not like it should. From the picture it looks like he is wearing Samurai-esque armor, and while the movie is not going to be identical to the cartoon, it would definitely have been better to give him proper Chinese style armor, as opposed to Japanese….I don’t know, I just have a feeling that this will be one of those movies that you desperately want to like, but it just doesn’t turn out very well.
Wow. *checks one of the ten million Zuko fansites* hmmm… there’s something about him thats different… hmmm just can’t put my ears, er, I mean, finger, on it….
oh get over yourself, jesus christ. you think people will respect you because you can connect a person with big-ish ears to an elephant movie? you think your movie reference is clever? alrighty well think again. if its possible for you to think, that is.
if you had the chance, you’d probably switch places with dev patel any day, he is adored by millions of people worldwide for his amazing performance in Slumdog Millionaire, and just because hes beautiful. He has tons of martial arts skills and does what he loves to do every day.
So, before you take out your insecurity and personal issues on someone who has worked hard in his life to make something of himself, try not to sound so shallow. I wish you good luck.
Come on guys. What’s with all of the mean ear comments? Personally I think his ears wont be such a huge problem, but Dev just dosent look like Zuko to me. If they had flattened Dev’s hair and added a bit more color to his scar, it would look like him, but right now I’m not really feeling it.
That said, i really hope his acting makes up for it. Loved slumdog millionaire beyond belief, I bet he can pull it off.
And a side note… Zuko is NOT evil. He’s brainwashed and confused. The whole series revolves around his journey to find himself and his morals.
Also, is anyone else seeing a possible Katara in the back?
Okay, seriously, some of you people need to chill!
Avatar is a CARTOON! I repeat, a CARTOON! How the hell are you expecting the actors to look EXACTLY like the fake, made-up, drawn characters? That doesn’t make sense to me! I am a very, very, very big avatar fan, I probably watched every episode 4 times, and I am not saddened by anything at this moment. If you really liked avatar, you would be focusing on the positive things. For instance, the CGI. In the trailer, the airbending looks pretty damn cool to me!! Some people on here need to get it in their head that this is the cast, and that they are not going anywhere. Trust me, if you do, because I sure did, I was exactly like most of you, you will feel much better about this film. This movie is going to be good. You need to stop wasting your time about the actor’s ears, I literally laughed when some of you started talking about his ears, I mean seriously, his ears, and you need to start preparing your mind for this film. I bet if you guys had no idea what avatar was, you would like the movie a lot!!! The last airbender is going to be a great movie, shoot, it better be! Especially since all 3 movies are gonna cost 250,000,000!! And if you aren’t thinking deeply about this, that’s a lot! The Lord of The Rings trilogy came out to be a total of 285,000,000! Avatar is not that far behind!! The Last Airbender is greater than most of us realize!!
OMG! NOT TO BE MESSED UP BUT LIKE I WAS EXPECTING SOMEONG MORE LIKE ASIAN/HOTTER LOOKING. AND SOMEONE MORE ASIAN MAYBE. AND MAYBE SOMEONE THAT MIGHT BE LIKE… TEENAGE LOOKING..
IM SUCH A BIGFAN OF AVATAR.. GO ANIME! BUT I HOPE THAT THIS AVATAR MOVIE WILL BE GOOD AND LIKE THE SAME AND STICKS TO THE POINT UNLIKE OTHER MOVIES THAT ARE BASEDD OFF BOOKS AND TV SHOWS.
I LOVE PRINCE ZUKO!!!!! BUT I WAS EXPECTING SOMEONE MORE ASIAN/HOT/YOUNG/TEENAGE LOOKING “/
Wow… this is just horrible. When I heard that this movie was comming out I was so excited (big fan of Avatar) but now I get this?!? Come on, I can look more like Zuko than that and I’M A GIRL! Zuko’s supposed to be asian looking, not Indian! The Fire Nation is NOT Indian! Do they look like werewolves to you? No. And what’s up with his hair? What don’t they get about long and shaggy? I mean it’s not that hard, just don’t spike your hair up! His scar is nearly invisible and that’s his most important detail. I could facepaint a better scar than that, infact I ALREADY DID! Sheesh… HUGE dissapointment. I’m not even gonna go into the other characters flaws right now (besides Sokka, I luv Jackson Rathbone)
God, why is everyone being so negative about this movie?
Yes, in this picture, it’s hard to see his scar, but there are better pictures of it. I loved the series, it’s my favorite show. I honestly think this movie is going to be awesome.
To all the people who are making immature comments about the ear: get a life, thats not the issue at all.
To those of you telling off the rest of us who are upset over the cast list: yes, im sure all the CGI will be awesome. Yes im sure that they will probably have good actors/actresses, in the film. The problem is that obvious details about certain major characters were overlooke.
1. Zuko/Fire nation: Zuko and the Fire nation should have been more Asian influenced. Bottom line, zuko isnt dark skinned period. and his scar should be a hell of a lot more noticable then that.
2. and since i havent found a thread about our two favorite waterbender yet, ill take of my grievences with that here. Has anyone even seen who they have playing Sokka & Katara? Two white kids…last i checked, they were the dark skinned ones; the entire waterbender tribes are. They could have used east indians/ natives americans for that.
None of us expect real people to look exactly like a cartoon character, but there if a difference between taking creative liberties and totally butchering the original work.
Dev Patel? Yeah, wasn’t who I expected. But does no one realize who they had playing him first? Jesse McCartney! Look up any photo of Jesse and you’ll realize why Dev surpasses him on so many level. I think Dev was a fine choice and I have no doubt he’ll perform excellently.
Ears? Really? Have we regressed so far that we’re commenting on his ears? My god. There’s nothing wrong with his frickin’ ears.
Yes, they were all Asian in the cartoon. But you have to understand the crazy things that can make or break a movie. I honestly don’t care if they casted with all African Americans. I thought casting was just fine. But you have to understand the audience: white people, mostly. Unfair and closed-minded? Probably. But very understandable.
And I’m pretty sure all of you would be happier with good actors instead of actors with the right skin color. Of course, if you look hard enough, I’m sure you can find them. But it goes back to the audience. People want to watch people that look like them. Period. And since American is comprised of 80% European Americans, it’s what we get. And I fault no one for it. Because it’s not a huge deal.
So how about we look at this logically instead of nit-picking on things that are there for a reason?
i love zuko i think dev is a great actor and is perfect for this role it doesnt matter about skin color and stop it about the ears ears are ears and u cant chanmge them i hope the scar will look better though
