    FIRST COMMENT!!!!!!!!!!!!!! nice

  2. rider28031 Says:

same basic design as the show but a lot cooler. I’m sold.

  3. BeiFong Says:

    that’s pretty awesome :BB

  4. Jenna Says:

Is that a boom mike in the shot? LOL :D

  5. ewww Says:

the costume really looks fake, like thos comic con kinda costumes
I have a felling this movie will fail like eragon….
    good graphics….bad storyline and acting….

  6. Sigh Says:

Getting really tired of idiots like the tool above saying the costumes look fake. They look great. From what i’ve seen so far they’re better looking than most of the costumes in LOTR, which a lot of people cite as some of the best costumes for “period” movies. Stop bitching simply to be bitching. And how can you say the acting is bad? Nobody’s even seen an ounce of footage. God, you people are ridiculous.

  7. Caleb Says:

The boom mic is funny. lol

I don’t really like the outfit, it looks like play-dress up. ;)

  8. ccarver3 Says:

yeah that does look like a mike.

The costumes look better than any cosplay I’ve seen.

And don’t go knockin Eragon, that movie gets great when you watch it on Rifftrax .

  9. JWolps Says:

    Scar?

  10. deet Says:

Eragon movie is one of the worst things to be viewed by my eyeballs.
Did no ounce of justice to the book.

    Anyways

I’m lawling at the boom mic :D
Dev looks pretty legit. I’m more excited for this movie now! :)

  12. Heavenly Says:

So is the whole Fire Nation besides the King, Zuko, and uncle Iroh going to Caucasian?

Good lord even the background crowd is going to white.

    • rider28031 Says:

Its gonna be a mixed-race nation, just like the rest of the world.

      • Heavenly Says:

Of course, and with the Caucasian race as our heroes….of course it’s just like rest of the world. *end of sarcasm*

I don’t mind that they are mixing other races into the story line. My problem is that these movie studios have a problem of only casting white actors in lead roles, even if the lead characters are not Caucasian.

    • Aaron Says:

EVERYONE IGNORE HEAVENLY– This idiot’s been going from wall to wall, posting the same complaint on each one. They just want to fight, they’re not actually trying to do anything productive.

Take a good look everyone, that is what you turn into when you have no life of your own. O.O

  13. Ajris Says:

    What about haircut and scar?

  14. Paige Says:

zuko is a lead role and he isn’t white!
he’s a huge character throughout the entire series.

    • adam Says:

hehe, they were actually originally going to cast Jesse McCartney to play zuko but with the huge rush of pissed-off fans, they were forced to make the change.

  15. Qazplm123890 Says:

Well, most people still have a problem with Dev Patel. Sure he’s Indian… but of course, he’s EVIL! So people still call M. Night. Shamylan evil. Dude! HE’S Indian! Just because all the good guys are white and all the evil guys are middle eastern, that doesn’t make it racist, even if it DOES sound bad. Honestly, if we’re all racially equal, people shouldn’t care.

  16. Hatter Says:

I can’t see the other people good enough to tell what race they are, The could be Indian, like Dev, but they kinda look white. Can’t really tell…

  17. vickstef Says:

@ Heavenly Noah is mixed [half Asian half white], Jackson Rathbone [was born in Singapore], Cliff Curtis [New Zealand], then u have Dev, Shaun, Jessica, Aasif, Seychelle…. some of the asians i know are white are u gonna hate on them 2

    • ED Says:

Aang’s actor is 50% Asian 50% Caucasian, really?

There was another poster who said he was part-Asian but didn’t specify the percentage.

      • benwick Says:

When fans become racist scientists, you know what that looks like? … http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Nuremberg_Laws

Aang is not asian, caucasian etc. – he’s a completely fictitious character, who belongs to a completely fictitious ethnic group, that may or may not be inspired by ethnic groups of the real world. But the world of Avatar is not the real world – and it isn’t portraying the real earth and her inhabitants. As long as Noah Ringer can pinpoint the personality of Aang and the architecture and social manners contain the cultural alussions and references, I really don’t see the problem…

      • Heavenly Says:

This comment is for benwick (there is no reply button by his/her name). First of all I am not a racist…I do not hate any race (Caucasian included). I’m actually half White… thank you very much. Please stop comparing people to Nazis because you’re under minding the cruelty of what Nazis did to Jews when you compare people to their behavior.

        For benwich and everyone else….

The creators does describe what race Aang is “Nationality-Air Nomads”….”In the show, Aang is the last surviving Airbender and a monk of the Air Nomads, the only race of people with the unique ability to manipulate the air around them.” ….. “The Air Nomads were a peaceful society that dwelled at high altitudes in temples and traveled the world atop their flying bison. They were based on Chinese Shaolin monks and Tibetan Buddhists. ” wiki http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Aang

So please stop saying that the characters’ races are not mention in the series or description of them.

        Also

You know what I find funny from movie studios is that when a movie is being made based on an ethnic culture(or non white culture) it for some reason has be ethnically diverse in the live-action. But if it’s a movie based on an European or topically white based materical they must stay “true to the material” in the live-action. Example Lord of the Rings, Harry Potter, etc. All these are basically Eurpean influence material and when they went to live-action they stayed exactly they were represented in books and cartoon. So I am saying why can’t Avatar be represented by it’s “Asian influence” in the live-action as it is in the animation character appearance and all?

  18. Mirei Says:

    Questions and Observations:

-The Fire Nation helmets look like Roman gladiator helmets.
-Has the Fire Nation’s signature color suddenly changed from red to black?
-I’m liking the furred robe Dev has on.
-Is the soldier to my right/Dev’s left wearing gloves?
-Ah, yes, the boom mike. ;)
-The boots sort of look like the ones from the cartoon. That’s good.

All in all, not disappointing. I’ve always wondered how Zuko would’ve looked in black, anyway.

  19. pregunta Says:

puta ttention and see the helmets, What you see on the top?

  20. Victor Says:

    “What about haircut and scar?”
The scar is confirmed to be there but much more realistic.
I can’t really see it due to my colorblindness.

The haircut is just different. Don’t worry about it.

  21. Honey Bee Says:

not trying to spoil anything but Zuko is not a bad guy
he starts out just trying to prove himself to his father but is one of the heroes of the story.

    • Heavenly Says:

We fans of the show already know that Zuko truly deep down is not evil. Though the series he comes to realize that what his father and nation had done to others was wrong. In the beginning he wanted to prove to his father that his is not worthless as a Fire prince and to prove that he decides to track done the Avatar and capture him for his father. But the point is that the majority of the Fire Nation (the King, Zuko, his mother and sister included) are NOT dark skinned.

  22. confusedperson Says:

why does he look so white?
    makeup?

  23. Hatter Says:

Yes. They used make-up to make him look white. >=|

  24. Carakav Says:

Oh for the love of Pete! All this talk of race ranges from misplaced concern, to whining, and everywhere in-between. M. Night went looking for the best he could find in the region he was shooting in… being Indian himself, he probably dug into his own list of contacts to find the talent he was looking for. That’s how it works.

If he had shot the film in East Asia, there would have been more East Asians.

If you want to complain about something, complain about the fact that the actor chosen to play Iroh isn’t fat! http://www.imdb.com/name/nm0869467/

  25. Tenkan Says:

    Awesome!

    Haha, boom mike. :D

And yeah, Dev really looks like he could play a good Zuko…I just hope this movie’ll be good.

I’m just irritated as to why many people here are saying the movie already sucks, if they haven’t even watched it!

  26. Hatter Says:

Lol I was kidding about the make-up. Being ironic.

  27. DTF13 Says:

I see the slightest hint of a scar on his face, not much though…

  28. twentyfirst Says:

wow..really looking forward to the movie!!

  29. Barbarita Says:

What I like (so far) is that the outfits aren’t exact replicas of the show costumes, then it would just look like really bad cosplay (ahem, DRAGONBALL anyone? XP ). Also, Aang’s arrow tattoo looks really good, it would have looked extremely cheesy if they had used a solid, simple blue arrow. I think gritty realism is the way to go, makes it look like an actual movie. Just hope it doesn’t turn out as horrible as dragonball or speed racer, honestly can’t they just get ONE movie adaption right?

    • adam Says:

hahahahaha! i completely agree! Dragonball was terribleXD. And i only went to see speed racer because Rain was in it… Can anyone say LSD-trip? i though a rainbow thew up or died or somehting hahhaha. but yes, if they had made the costumes exactly like the anime it would have looked rediculous ;)

  30. WAIT GUYS Says:

you know what I JUST realized?

they are wearing long coats cause its freezing? if u look under his coat there might be a more fire nationy costume

  31. Abby Says:

Can you tell even has a scar?

  32. SlashFox14 Says:

He looks so evil by the look of the eye. I can’t wait of what Dev is gonna bring for Prince Zuko. :)

  33. Wendy Says:

Zav Patel looks good in those Fire Nation armor.
I do hope that this movie is not a letdown.
    Watch Lost Online

  34. the shiz Says:

    HAWT

  35. Dani Says:

I agree with Barbarita about the costumes. I like that they made Aang look more realistic. My 4 yr old dressed up as Aang for Halloween last year and let me tell you, while a bright blue arrow looks cute on a little kid that’s trick or treating it would not look good for a live action film. I think they made the right call. Same for Zuko’s ponytail. I love Zuko, I think he’s the most important character in the story next to Aang, but I always felt distracted by how extreme his look was in the first Book. I was not thrilled with Dev Patel’s casting as I don’t think he looks like Zuko but from what I understand he is a very good actor and I am choosing to hope that he will bring the spirit of Zuko to the part. The same for the rest of the cast whether they look like there cartoon counter parts or not. No adaptation will ever please people completely some moment people love always gets left out (tom bombadil in LOTR) or a character doesn’t look how you thought they should (Hermione in HP) but hopefully the end product gets as close as it can to the source. Sometime it even turns out better (I think LOTR as a book is just TOOOO LOOOONNNNGGG, my opinion:) We’ll just have to wait and see. If it’s not good there’s still A:TLA reruns on just about every day. I just hope they make Katara and Toph dolls for my daughter. Bums me out that they never had them from the show. If they do that then the movie is worth it to me. :)

  36. roflblahman Says:

Mind you Dani, LOTR as a movie had to have been long to
    have been worth anything.

  37. adam Says:

Dev patal is probably going to be a fine Zuko. stop complaining people…but i AM awefully glad they didnt stick with caucasian JESSE McCARTNEY!!! that would have been horrible. they should, however, have picked their actors/actresses based on the races the four nations are based off of. i.e- Air nation= based around Chinese/Tibetan (although i think they drew aang more on the caucasian side), water nation= inuit/eskimo etc, fire nation= japanese/chinese/eastern countries, and earth nation=kinda…you know im not really sure ^_^everywhere else? i dont feel E.K. is as strongly one part of the world as the other 3 nations…. any way! this movie looks as if it might turn out interesting…i wont say good or bad because you cannot know how the actual mechanics will work out and how well the actors/actresses adapt to their roles. you should not base a movie off its physical looks alone. imagine if they got the costumes spot-on down to the last detail…but the acting/music/ basically everything else sucked. now would you rather have that, or a movie have good acting etc with just a few downturns that can Easily be overlooked (you just have to be a little less critical) in costume/design? Ask yourselves that and try to ease up a little. you have to realize that not everything in a cartoon can be replicated in real life. you can do far more with drawings and animation- and CGI will only take you so far. Sorry for ranting like this and I do so hope the movie turns out amazing (unlike the Dragonball movie, i personally thought that was horrible :P ) i will see it and, unless you think it will ruin the anime for you, i hope you all will see it too and at least support these people’s efforts to make a live action movie of such an Amazing Anime!!

  38. Cas Says:

He looks nothing like ZUKO! Dev is a good actor, but he just does not have Zuko’s look :( And isn’t one of his eyebrows suppose to gone?

  39. Doxxy Says:

Nooo… this isn’t Zuko! >.< I love Avatar, but my anticipation of this movie is gone. Zuko is my favourite charakter and Dev does nothing look like him. I know, to find a person who looks exacly like the picture is impossible, but i'm sure they could have find a better cast.
Sorry for mistakes, I'm from germany

    • Sabrina Says:

I think so too… they can’t find a person who looks exactly like Zuko, but they could have found a much better person :( I mean I like Dev Patel, but I don’t like him as Zuko.

By the way: Your English isn’t bad ;)

  40. JO Says:

WELL I PERSONALLY CAN’T WAIT 2 SEE THIS MOVIE!!! HOPE THEY DO GUD!!!!!… EARTH BENDERS RULE!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! ^____________^

  41. zutararules Says:

    ummm…i must be missin’ the boom mike…….^^;

  42. ME Says:

okay,i luv the tv show, but they shouldve gotten a different guy 2 b suko. this guy looks kinda freaky. zuko was hotter in the tv show. and i know a guy who wouldve made a gr8 zuko. 2 bad he lives in another country :-(

  43. Kami Says:

aaah, it had me hooked until i saw that picture, Dev is a fantastic actor, but he’s just not Zuko, they seem to have lost their way whilst trying to recreate Zuko into a realistic figure, the scar, for instance, is Zuko’s ‘trademark’ yet its barely visable in any picture of the movie, the hair, the outfit…i dunno, it just doesnt seem like Zuko at all, who know, maybe it’ll be a big supprise and he’ll fit the role perfectly, fingers crossed, as i can hardly wait for this movie! i wonder if they’ll have Appa and Momo in it, hope so :-D

  44. babbler Says:

dev patel as zuko?? iroh is skinny? katara looks waay older than aang? this movie’s gonna suck.

  45. Abhaya Says:

    This is preposterous!!!

I have no expectations from this film, except the music (James Newton Howard was excellent in Blood Diamond).

I’m a big big fan of the original cartoon series and they have completely messed up the casting. Katara and Aang look horrible together, its more like Older sister and Kid Bro!!

And Dev Patel as Prince Zuko??!!! That’s even worse!! I mean Zuko’s supposed to be H-O-T!!! The guy looks like a damn wimp!! No offence, I’m Indian too. But he just doesn’t fit as Zuko.

And to top it off, WHERE IS TOPH??? She’s amazing!!

Guess the only saving grace are James Newton Howard and Jakson Rathbone (as Sokka).

I’ve always wanted a movie of the series but now looking at these people, I am NOT letting the image imprinted by the series to get marred by this.

    This is a let down.
