As we get closer to the release of The Last Airbender the goodies keep piling up for Avatar fans. Over at MTV.com there are a plethora of images highlighting the beginnings of a magnificent set of action figures based off of the theatrical release of The Last Airbender coming this summer.
“We worked very closely with M. Night, the rest of the Paramount team and our in-house design team, along with our partner Spin-Master, to come up with the right assortment, the right size for these action figures and make sure we we had representation of all the nations within the ‘Arbender’ series,” said Nickelodeon’s Lourdes Arocho.
Along with the images came this video giving a sneak preview of the action figures and a migraine inducing mispronunciation .

They look cool but I do hope they have this one sound for the Avatar State effect…
“Avatar State! Yip-Yip!”

“Ong”? ONG? –wails in agony–
But anyways… I’ll probably be getting a few of these to guard my desk.

Jokes.. Is that what they’re gonna call him the whole movie? Him and Oppa right?

Don’t worry–Frank Marshall replied to a twitterer that he confirmed that the pronunciations of both Aang’s and Sukko’s names are correct in the movie.
“@Nelson64 I have confirmed the Appa is spelled correctly, pronunciations are correct and in the movie…Thanks.”
“@Nelson64 thanks for the heads up. Clarifying that pronunciations are you heard are from the movie…”
Although since this was the chronological order that he posted these two comments, I wonder, from the latter “tweet”, if he has yet to clarify the pronunciations.
Either way, I thought the toys looked great. Very intricate. Very much like the actors and creature in the movie. Blue spirit is now revealed without dark shadows (as it was in the trailer)! New, different design.

If you look closely at the MTV blog pics, you can see that smaller Aang action figure has a little Momo with him. Glad he wasn’t left out. I’m unsure how i feel about the Appa design though. Too early to tell.

I don’t really like them, but it doesn’t bother me that much because I’m not really an action figure person to begin with, so I couldn’t actually distinguish between a quality one and a second-rate one.
Plus, the action figures have absolutely zero reflection on how the movie will be apart from a ball-parked look at the appearance of the characters, so it doesn’t matter to me. (I still hate the way the blue gorilla- I mean spirit- looks though.)

Also, “bite-sized benders”? I seriously hope no one here is from Britain.

I’m sure you did looaaads of research. After all, you managed to get the main character’s name wrong!
